It is Saturday morning and it is the first weekend in the past several that we have had a “free” weekend! It feels like the whole month of October we have been going or gone on the weekends!
During the first part of the month we had a legit fall break. It was the first time since Mary has been teaching that we had a full week off for fall. So we loaded up the kids and made the 12+ hour trip to Disney! From a teenager to a 5yr old we had fun. We saw the mouse, ate lots of food, talked fireworks, and walked, walked and walked. At some point I think all of us feel asleep on the “free” shuttle buses back to the hotel each night and I’m pretty sure that we woke up grumpy each morning. But we had fun!
After Disney it was time to run – literally! We loaded the kids up again and left for Chattanooga. Mary was signed up to run the 4 Bridges 1/2 Marathon and I was running the 7 Bridges Marathon. Both of us finished with our fastest times ever! The kids spent time with their Aunt Elizabeth and had a great time! The next weekend Mary and I went running again – we joined a group of young adults from church and did a 12 member relay running from Chattanooga to Nashville. Yea that’s right a 196 mile run!
Over all of journeys I had a wonderful time reflecting on God’s creation and beauty. From the warmth of the sun in central Florida to the fall colors of East Tn God’s glory was on display. It was during these moments that 19th Psalm became clear –
The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky[a] proclaims the work of His hands.
2 Day after day they pour out speech;
night after night they communicate knowledge.[b]
3 There is no speech; there are no words;
their voice is not heard.
4 Their message[c] has gone out to all the earth,
and their words to the ends of the world. (Ps. 19:1-4)
I am so thankful for free time and time with family, but I am also thankful to be able to take in all of God’s creation!
