Got your back…being Energized by our Friends!

Bible Study Outline – Wednesday Night Jan. 18 – ENERGIZED – WEEK 3

Become wise by walking with the wise; hang out with fools and watch your life fall to pieces. Proverbs 13:20 (MSG)

Think about the following questions…

  • I have a friend who tells me when I’m getting into something I should not.
  • I listen to the advice of my friends
  • I am able to serve as a warning for my friends when they are getting involved in something they shouldn’t

Are you that type of friend? Do you have that type of friend?  What do I mean by type?  Well someone that holds you or you hold accountable.  The next question should be what do you mean by accountable? Well I am glad you asked…Accountability is…Someone who provides direction and advice, checking on your progress regularly.

In 2 Samuel 12 we see the perfect story of accountability.  See a young man by the name of Nathan approached King David about his recent choice of sexual activity with a young lady named Bathsheba, who by the way was not his wife. Not only was there an adulterous relationship, there was also lying and murder all in the same story.  Nathan through his crafty wit shared a story with the King that angered him to the point that he was ready to arrest the man in the story, only to find out that Nathan was talking about King David!

How do you respond to someone holding you accountable?  Do you get mad and un-friend them on Facebook?  Do you send text messages to everyone telling them how the person that is trying to help you is mean?  Or do you listen to them and thank them for helping you?  Well more times than not we choose to walk away, because if we are honest we really do not want people in our business!

But just this once think of this way…

The wounds of a friend are trustworthy, but the kisses of an enemy are excessive. Proverbs 27:6 (HCSB)

Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future. Proverbs 19:20 (ESV)
