I got “THE GIFT”… In 1984 the most sought after Christmas gift was the “Entex Space Invader” hand-held video game. That’s right…before there was Gameboy, DS, or a PSP there was Entex and yes the big man in the red suit left one for me. It had to be the best Christmas morning ever! That Christmas was the first one back in our home after it burnt down earlier that summer. We got a 13 channel VCR (that’s a Video Cassette Recorder, FYI) and the Space Invader Game! While I still have the handheld game, everything else from that Christmas morning is all but gone. The neat part about Christmas at my boyhood home was that after all the gifts had been ripped apart we would stop and listen to Dad read the Christmas story. It was typically the one found in Luke. Dad reading that Bible story to us is the one thing that I recall from every Christmas gathering.Sure, the gifts were great. The excitement of the morning was like no other. But the lasting gift of Christmas is the best! That lasting gift is the one that arrived as the fulfillment of prophecies. That gift is the Son of God who came to earth and left with His ambition filled as the Son of Man! That gift is Jesus.
