Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame and has sat down at the right hand of God’s throne. Hebrews 12:1-2 (HCSB)
Each of us have that great spiritual mentor. Maybe it was the adult that spent time with you at Vacation Bible School. It could be the adult that first told you the story of Jonah and the Whale, or about a little boy that threw 5 rocks at a giant. It could be that they never spoke, they simply lived a Christian life in front of you. For me it was Mr. Mac.
Mr. Mac was an older gentleman that attended Park Avenue Baptist in Nashville at the time that we did. I was between 5-7 years old and I remember that every Sunday Mr. Mac would find me in the lobby of the church and have either a Dum Dum sucker or a piece of Juicy Fruit gum. He would share that with me and the other children, then pat us on the head and say “May God Bless You.” Why I remember him I am not sure…maybe it was the fact that I got sugar before noon. None the less it was his way of sharing not only of himself but of his Lord. So today I say “THANKS” to Mr. Mac!
11/20 – Thanks to a spiritual mentor or friend! Today, thank God for the long line of Christ-followers who have gone before us as well as those who share in and encourage our faith these days. Their faith and faithfulness to share it with us is a tremendous heritage!
